Chapter TEN review (FINAL POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)Posted by micahmrt09 in UncategorizedIn chapter ten I learned about the Grand Coulee (?) Dam. The dam was said to supply many different needs such as electricity. The important thing was that it didn’t work as well as it was supposed to and it caused some problems. In chapter nine I learned about the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition World’s Fair. The thing that I thought was interesting was that the architect, John C. Olmsted, had to turn a collage campus into a beautiful, outstanding, fair. This is important because in the past many people wanted to go to the fair because it as to cool and awesome, but not all were able to go. In chapter eight I learned about the Chinese Exclusion Act. The Chinese Exclusion Act was when people started to become afraid of the Chinese because they were taking their jobs away. This is important because we have to treat everyone fairly and this reminds us of that. In chapter eight I learned about “The Statehood Era”. The thing that I thought was amazing was that we threw the Indians off the land of their ancestors and put them on reservations. There are Indians that still live on reservations and when we see them off of them, we should make them feel welcome and not offend them. In chapter seven I learned about the Whitman Massacre. I learned about how five Indians killed about 14 people in a few hours. The thing I’ll remember the most is how the Indians and the whites were both sick, but since the whites were healing faster, the white doctor was purposely killing the Indians. This makes us realize how we have to be very careful with our comments and actions tword other races because they can be taken the wrong way and offend someone. In chapter six, I learned about the Oregon trail. I thought the choice of animals to pull the covered wagons was interesting. The people chose to use oxen because horses couldn’t eat the grass on the trail. It is important because this show how much you have to plan ahead for many different events. In chapter five I learned about fur trade in the Oregon country. I learned that the Hudson’s bay company was very successful and they provided other companys with competition. This is important because there were many companys, but only a few prospered. In chapter four I learned about different explorers that contributed to the discovery of Washington. The person that I remember the most is that Robert Gray. He was the first explorer to travel around the whole world. This is important because he was the only explorer I learned about that was from the USA and, to me, it is cool that someone from our country could do something very important to Washington’s history. In chapter three, the main thing that I learned about was how envolved the coastal indians were with nature. They believed that everything alive related in some way to the natural world. This is important because it helps people that live in Washington right now to appreciate things that are alive. |
